October has arrived, bringing with it what we look forward to every year: Manufacturing Month!
Friday, October 6, 2017 marks the formal celebration of Manufacturing Day, but the entire month has been dedicated to the industry that supports so many of our communities. Manufacturers across the country are opening their doors for facility tours, hosting virutal events, providing mentoring services for students, participating in career days, and more throughout the month. In the MakerMinded communities of Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee, there are over 270 activities currently registered on the Manufacturing Day website, and more are being added every day!
That's awesome...but how do I get involved?
You can find an event near you by heading to www.mfgday.com and filtering by your state and city. You can also contact manufacturers in your community to see how you can connect with them. Each MakerMinded state page is developing a growing directory of manufacturers that want to work with schools - simply head to your state's Activity Page and click on 'Local Activities' so see a map of businesses in your area. Keep in mind that this directory is also under development, since we are constantly reaching out to more businesses!
What should I do after I attend a Manufacturing Day/Month event?
Great question! We want you to claim your MakerMinded points so that you can get your school on the leaderboard and start competing for a virtual reality prize for your school. You'll need to activate your MakerMinded account, make sure you upload a photo from your experience, and then document what you learned about on the Submission Page. We might even feature your submission on our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts, so get out there and celebrate Manufacturing Month!
